A slower short ball from Hardik Pandya in the 48th over of the Aussie innings saw Carey pull it towards deep fine leg, where Iyer was stationed. The India middle-order batter swooped in and upon spotting Carey and Adam Zampa going for the second run, went for the direct hit instead of relaying the ball to wicket-keeper KL Rahul.
The execution was top-notch and his throw cannoned into the stumps, catching the well-set Carey comfortably short of his ground. So much so, that the umpires did not even need to refer it upstairs to the third umpire to confirm, and Carey had to walk back before getting the chance to tee off at the death.
